Richard R. He is a Swedish-born pianist and composer. With classical music performance as his musical foundation, his own compositions aim for psychedelic and transcendent sounds with influences from rock, minimalism, and electronic music.

 

He has been awarded numerous awards in various disciples, including the EMJ Composition Prize 2024 (Pelt, Belgium), the third prize in Malmö Piano Competition 2022 (Sweden), Arts in Society Award 2021 (Belgium), third prize of the Vic Nees Composition Competition 2020 (Belgium), the STIM-scholarship (Sweden) in 2020 and the first prize in Chieri International Music Competition 2019 (Italy) in chamber music as Duo Volgaris with Bartolomeo Audisio.

 

His work “introspect” was performed by Flanders Symphony Orchestra (conductor: José Luis Gómez) in Bozar (Brussels), Brugge Concertgebouw, de Bijloke (Gent) and deSingel (Antwerp). Stage works include the search of silence with B-classic and VONK Atelier, EGEL with I SOLISTI and Johnny Mus and Brittle Pride with dancer Jorien Onsia. Future own productions encompass projects in non-traditional venues: AKVA, music theatre about marine pollution organized in swimming halls. His music has been performed by HERMES-Ensemble (Belgium), Jelena Stefanic (Croatia), ZWERM Electric Guitar Quartet (Belgium), Marianne Jacobs (Sweden), among others.

 

R.R. He graduated classical piano in Royal Conservatoire Antwerp with Prof. Sergei Edelmann and composition with Wim Henderickx and Bram van Camp. He also holds a diploma in educative master (composition) from Antwerp. Previous mentors include Ass.Prof. Marianne Jacobs, Malmö and Joël Bons, Amsterdam (winner of the Grawemeyer Award 2019), among many others in various master classes in Austria, England, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, and Lithuania.

 

His debut-album Regression is released on digital platforms as “Duo Volgaris”, which received high acclaims from the newspaper Ystads Allehanda. Richard is coordinator of the cultural organisation SUGARBOX (Ystad, Sweden), promoting interdisciplinary art in non-traditional venues, is and member of  Flanders Composers Archipelago and Swedish Society of Composers. Future performances of his music: Malmö Symphony Orchestra, Malmö Sinfonietta, MISA Festival (Shanghai, China) and the rock band SAGE.
