The piece is composed for the young conservatory ensemble of Antwerp, organized by Dirk Proost. The theme was Guernica, an anti-war painting made by Picasso.

 

The piece is performed by all ensembles, consisting of 5-20 musicians. A conductor will be present but will not conduct in the traditional manner; there are specific instructions for the conductor. The instrumentalists are divided in two groups and all of the participants are offered paths they can choose in the score, generating different performances every attempt. The length is not specified and is decided by the conductor.
